Harvey Official Accused Of Rape At Municipal Building

(CBS) – A city administrator and school board member for the south suburb of Harvey is accused of committing a sexual assault at the municipal building late last week.

CBS2's Roseanne Tellez reports, prosecutors say the woman turned to city hall for a raccoon problem, but instead of getting help, she was raped.

Tyrone Rogers, 59, the director of commuter parking and a school board member in Harvey, allegedly raped a woman who came to the Harvey Municipal Building Friday afternoon to talk to him about a government issue, the Cook County Sheriff's Department said.

The victim says Rogers took her into an office downstairs, locked the door and once in his office, the he allegedly grabbed the victim's hand and said that he wanted to have sex with her. But when she refused, police say he raped her.

But there's more. The victim said "she had known Rogers for several years since he had previously been married to a member of her family," Prosecutor Tom Driscoll said. Relatives of Rogers were in court Tuesday at his bond hearing, but declined to talk to reporters.

Rogers has been charged with one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault.

Harvey city spokesperson Sean Howard says Rogers, director of commuter parking, has been placed on unpaid administrative leave.

"Since the inception of this investigation, the City of Harvey has fully cooperated with the Cook County Sheriff's Police. The same will be granted to the Cook County State's Attorney in their efforts to prosecute the case," Howard said.

Howard added, "If, in fact, it is determined and confirmed that any official misconduct took place in that office, there's a violation of the employee police here, and he'll be terminated."

Rogers, who has a wife and two grown children, is due back in court Sept. 19, and his bond is set at $50,000. CBS2 was told he'd be bonding out later Tuesday evening.
