Harvey Man Charged With Hitting CPD Officer With Stolen Van

(CBS) -- A Harvey man has been charged with slamming a stolen van into a police officer on New Year's Day.

Police say 19-year-old Randy Kendricks intentionally ran down a police officer on the 6000 block of South Walcott around 2:30 Thursday afternoon.

Officers spotted the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it. That's when police say Kendricks tried to flee and drove the van into a Chicago police squad car then intentionally rammed that car into an officer standing near the curb. Both men tried to flee and Kendricks was apprehended after a short foot chase.

The injured 26-year-old officer from the Englewood district was taken to Little Company of Mary hospital on Evergreen Park with injuries to his head and leg that are described as non-life threatening.

Hendricks has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a stolen vehicle.
