Groupon For Condoms Full Of Holes

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- It was a deal full of holes, literally.

Customers in Australia who purchased a Groupon for discounted condoms have been told to stop using them.

It turns out the advertised brand-name Durex condoms were fake ones, filled with holes in the latex, according to a recall notice from the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission.

The purported "Extra Safe," "Thin Feel" and "Performa" varieties of Durex were sold between March 12-April 10 by Edgelounge Enterprises though Groupon's Australia website.

"The condoms may be counterfeit products with defects such as holes in the latex," according to the recall notice.

"The condoms may not prevent pregnancy or protect users against sexually transmitted diseases, which can result in serious illness or death."

Groupon, the Chicago-based online deal site, told Mashable that the customers have been contacted directly by the company and have been issued a full refund.
