Graffiti Vandals Tag Old County Hospital As "Air City"
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The iconic old Cook County Hospital recently was vandalized by some ambitious taggers, who clearly have no fear of heights.
Graffiti taggers are known for a certain amount of pride in putting their mark in very visible but hard to reach places. That was certainly the case at the old Cook County Hospital. Someone managed to get inside the massive century-old building, and make their way to the top of the eight-floor hospital, where they must have negotiated narrow ledges to paint "Air City" in huge letters.
The graffiti is visible from the Eisenhower Expressway. Photos have been posted online, along with congratulations for the feat.
The hospital closed in 2002 when the county replaced the facility with the new John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
The building is surrounded by a fence, but it's not hard to imagine how someone with a little ingenuity, and maybe a ladder, could get past that.
