Girl, 15, dies after being shot in head in Washington Heights

Police search for suspect in shooting death of 15-year-old girl

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 15-year-old girl with big dreams; that's how loved ones describe the teenager shot and killed while sitting in an SUV in the Washington Heights neighborhood on Sunday.

Police said, just before 1 a.m. Sunday, Demea Morris was sitting in the back seat of an SUV near 106th and Sangamon, near Jackie Robinson Park, when she was shot in the back of the head.

She was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Demea's family said she was a freshman at Hyde Park Academy High School. She wanted to be a nurse, and was studying hard to make that dream happen.

A relative said Demea was with her brother and sister, asleep in the back seat of the SUV, when she was shot in the back of the head.

Police have not made any arrests.
