Missing Girl, 7, Found Safe
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 7-year-old girl who was reported missing Thursday afternoon, after she wasn't at school when her mom showed up to pick her up has been found safe.
Nicole Broughton said her daughter, Kendra, was found safe Friday morning.
Kendra was dropped off at Adam Clayton Powell Paideia Community Academy, 7511 S. South Shore Dr., at about 8:50 a.m. Thursday. When school was dismissed around 3:30 p.m., teachers escorted all the students outside, and surveillance camera video showed Kendra playing with friends outside school, but she later disappeared. Her mother was running late, and by the time she arrived at the school to pick up Kendra at 4:30 p.m., Kendra was gone.
"When she got out of school at 3:30, they saw her on the camera that she was playing with a friend, and after that she vanished. They did not see her no more on the camera, or anything else," Nicole Broughton said.
Kendra was found at a friend's home in a high-rise apartment building at 7250 S. South Shore Dr. A woman in the building heard that she had been reported missing, and remembered seeing the girl in the building on Thursday.
Kendra had spent the night at a friend's apartment without telling her mother, and was reunited with her mom Friday morning.
