Georgia Man Arrested After Loaded Gun Found In Carry-On At Midway
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 35-year-old man from Georgia was arrested at Midway International Airport on Monday, after security screeners found a loaded handgun in his carry-on luggage.
WBBM Newsradio's John Cody reports Transportation Security Administration workers found a loaded 9 mm Desert Eagle pistol in Kevin Champion's luggage as he was going through a security checkpoint before his flight from Midway to Atlanta.
TSA spokesman Michael McCarthy said it was the sixth firearm found in luggage at Midway this year.
There were no indications he intended to cause harm, but he was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor for carrying a concealed firearm in an airport.
Champion, from Clarkston, Georgia, was scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 1 at the Misdemeanor Branch Court at 51st Street and Wentworth Avenue.
