Georgetown Opens Big East Play With 70-58 Win Over DePaul
ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) — D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera and Isaac Copeland had 15 points apiece Wednesday night and Georgetown opened Big East Conference play with a 70-58 win over DePaul.
Georgetown (8-5) went in front for good while ending the first half on a 7-2 run, leading 32-27 at the break. The Hoyas continued to roll with the first eight points of the second half and stretched the lead to 15 with 13 minutes to play.
DePaul (6-7) stayed close until Georgetown's Reggie Cameron made a 3-pointer to make it 63-50 with 2:46 left. The Blue Demons' efforts to close the gap were hampered by poor second-half foul shooting (7 of 16).
L.J. Peak scored 14 and Smith-Rivera added five assists, four rebounds and three steals. Smith-Rivera made both of his 3-point attempts as the Hoyas shot 10 of 23 from the arc.
Billy Garrett Jr. led DePaul with 21 points, five rebounds and five assists.
