Gary Man Sought In Attack On Girlfriend
GARY, Ind. (STMW)-- An arrest warrant has been issued for a Gary man charged with assaulting his girlfriend, who needed to be placed in an induced coma because of the severity of her injuries, police said.
Gregory Brown, 54, of 2816 Central Drive, is charged with battery resulting in serious bodily injury, battery by means of a deadly weapon and criminal mischief.
The victim told Detective JerVean Gates that she and Brown had been out on the night of Jan. 18, and while they were at a Midtown bar, she argued with his cousin.
When she and Brown returned to her house, he became enraged and began trashing the place, including ripping a stove from the wall, according to police. They said Brown then started beating the woman in the head with a wooden knife rack.
She was able to escape and call for help but later had to be placed in a coma to enable her head injuries to heal, police said.
Brown will be held on $50,000 bail when he is apprehended, court records state.
Ex-con held in Jaguar theft
GARY — A Glen Park area resident with a prior conviction for stolen auto parts is being held without bail for auto theft and resisting law enforcement, both felonies, police said.
Tyrone L. Mims, 26, of 4177 Virginia St., allegedly stole on April 27 a 2003 Jaguar that his neighbor had left running outside his house.
Police said the neighbor reported the theft immediately, and minutes later Sgt. Gregory Wolf saw the stolen Jaguar, but the driver refused to stop, leading to a brief pursuit.
The driver jumped out of the car and fled but was apprehended with help from Cpl. Dante Colza and his K-9 partner Onyx, according to police.
Court records show that Mims was convicted of receiving stolen auto parts in 2007.
