6 garages damaged by fire in Clearing

CHICAGO (CBS) – Police and fire crews responded to a fire that left six garages damaged in the Clearing neighborhood Wednesday morning

The fire happened around 1 a.m. near Midway at 64th and Menard.

No injuries were reported.

Fireworks to blame for fire that left 6 garages damaged in Clearing

Neighbors on the scene say they were awoken in the middle of the night by people telling them to get out of their homes.

"Honestly, we were half asleep. The whole, banging, People banging 'Get out of the house there is a fire,'" said Erica Chagolla, resident. "We ran out of the house and at this point, we're not sure what's going on."

Officials say the fire appeared to have started due to the result of pyrotechnic activity. 

Two of the garages were completely destroyed.
