Frigid Temps Cause Problems At O'Hare, Midway
(CBS) -- This week's bitter blast has left lingering problems at both Chicago airports. Frozen fuel pipes at O'Hare forced at least two airlines to delay flights.
Friday night, problems surfaced getting fuel to planes. Both airports returned to normal operations Saturday morning and the fuel lines were working again.
Traveling for some was put on pause as the cold weather impacted underground fuel lines at the airport. It was too cold for those fuel lines to operate properly so the needed fuel to get passengers from O'Hare to places around the country was driven to planes through tanker trucks. That takes longer to do resulting in longer than scheduled times to take off.
The impacts felt by customers on some United Express and American Airlines flights.
Of course, longer take off times meant some planes coming into the airport had to wait on the tarmac for those delayed planes to push off.
That may be playing a role in some trying to get out today.
"The flight was canceled last night, like last minute thing. It was delayed the next thing you know it was canceled," said traveler Jay Flores.
Airport personnel said the airport is back to normal operations.
