Friends, Family Of Motorcycle Accident Victim Outraged At Grisly Pictures Posted Online
(CBS) -- For any family, dealing with the sudden and horrific death of a loved one is tragic enough. Members of one suburban family say they are being victimized again, through Facebook.
CBS 2's Dana Kozlov reports on pleas by family and friends to take down accident-scene pictures.
Frankie Vandor is still reeling from the sudden death of his former girlfriend, Miranda Valles, in a motorcycle accident early Sunday.
Adding to his grief now are photos, posted and shared on Facebook, of her dead body in the road, just a few feet from the severed body of Matt Summers, the motorcycle's driver.
He called the posting "disrespectful, ignorant disgusting."
"No one needs to see that," Vandor says.
He isn't alone. Dozens of the victim's friends and family are outraged by the postings and want them gone.
The pictures have been reported to Facebook. But Katherine Gomez and several other friends says they received the same response: "We reviewed the photo you reported for containing graphic violence and found it doesn't violate our community standards." The social-media giant has restricted Facebook users under 18 from accessing the pictures.
Valles' friends say Facebook's stance is puzzling, given that other kinds of pictures, such as mothers breastfeeding babies, have been pulled outright over issues of standards.
A Facebook spokesperson said the social media service was reviewing the matter further.
