Freight Train Hits Mail Truck In Addison
ADDISON (CBS) -- A mail truck was hit by a freight train Thursday morning in west suburban Addison.
A Canadian National train hit the semi, which was carrying mail, at the Grace Avenue crossing at 4:48 a.m., according to Addison police.
Grace was closed between North and Belden as crews cleaned up the debris.
Minor injuries were reported, and no one was transported to the hospital.
U.S. Postal Inspectors were at the scene, and the Canadian National Railroad is investigating the accident.
Employees at the U.S. Postal Service's Carol Stream processing plant were collecting the mail, according to postal service spokesman Mark Reynolds.
Those employees will then bring it back to the plant for processing, he said. Reynolds said it's not yet clear where the truck was heading.
"In any event that mail is not going anywhere until we can get it all collected," Reynolds said. "Employees from the Carol Stream plant and the [U.S. Postal Service] Inspector Services are there. We'll get the mail collected and deal with it as soon as we can."
