Fox Lake Police Scandal Prompts Elgin Authorities To Discover Wrongdoing In Their Own City
(CBS) -- The investigation into the suicide of Fox Lake Police Lt. Joe Gliniewicz has prompted at least one other police department to launch an internal investigation – and they found something.
James Rog, an Elgin animal control officer, has been charged with stealing $6,000 from Elgin's police explorers program, which is for young people interested in becoming a cop.
Elgin Police chief Jeff Swoboda said authorities got the idea of auditing the program after revelations Gliniewicz had been raiding his Lake County community's police explorers program. Gliniewicz is the veteran officer who staged his suicide to look like a murder.
Rog resigned his position and has been released on bond, police said.
"I'm very, very disappointed," Swoboda told reporters.
