Four Dogs Rescued From Korean Meat Trade Arrive In Chicago
(CBS) -- Four dogs that were expected to be dinner in Korea instead arrived at O'Hare Sunday morning and will soon be someone's pets.
Staffers for Lucky Lab Rescue picked up two females and two males - Labrador mixes and one partially paralyzed mutt - at O'Hare that were part of the meat trade in South Korea.
Kathy Martin, president of the Lewisville, Indiana-based rescue, says the tide is turning on eating dog meat in Asia and it appears to be something shunned by many younger Koreans.
A dog meat festival in Yulin, China garnered international scorn in June.
She says the four pups are the latest her organization has brought to the U.S. from Korea after a rescue group there reached out via Facebook.
After a two-week quarantine, she says the dogs will be available for adoption.
Martin says the practice of dog-eating is something that should prompt many Americans to re-evaluate the way this country raises and slaughters cows, pigs and chicken.
