Former Simeon Basketball Player Saieed Ivey Fatally Shot In Los Angeles

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A former basketball player from Simeon High School was fatally shot after an argument in suburban Los Angeles on Thursday.

Monterey Park police say Saieed Ivey was arguing around 5 a.m. with another man in the parking lot of an apartment complex on West El Repretto Drive when shots were fired.

When police arrived, they found Ivey's body inside a car. According to student records at Simeon, today was Ivey's birthday.

Family members told CBS 2 in Los Angeles that Ivey moved to L.A. to get away from the gun violence in Chicago.

Ivey was reportedly playing basketball at East L.A. Junior College. He was listed on the team's roster as a freshman.

He had previously played at Governor's State University in University Park, a suburb south of Chicago.

No suspects were in custody as of Thursday afternoon.
