Former Bears GM Phil Emery Hired To Falcons' Personnel Staff
(CBS) A year removed from office as Bears general manager, Phil Emery has landed with the Falcons' personnel department, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday.
Emery was the Bears' GM from 2012-14, and he fired coach Lovie Smith after the 2012 season. After a disappointing 5-11 season in 2014, Emery was dismissed along with his hand-picked coaching hire, Marc Trestman, after the 2014 season. Chicago was 23-25 in Emery's three-year tenure.
Emery, 57, had worked as the Falcons' director of college scouting from 2004-'08. He then moved to the Chiefs to become director of scouting from 2008-'11 before coming to the Bears.
Chicago hired Emery to replace Jerry Angelo as general manager. Ryan Pace, formerly of the Saints, took over as the Bears' new general manager in January 2015.
