For several weeks, Bowman had been rumored to favor the Giants, so the signing comes as no surprise, and the Bears never appeared to make a serious push to re-sign him.
Chicago has already added two new defensive backs in free agency in safeties Ryan Mundy and M.D. Jennings, as well as re-signing cornerback Charles Tillman. With Bowman's exit, the Bears are still in search of cornerback depth and a nickel back.
The 29-year-old Bowman has played all six of his pro seasons in Chicago. He had 45 tackles and three interceptions last season.
