Fireworks Set For July 4 At Wrigley Field -- A First For The Cubs

Listen to Fireworks At Wrigley July 4

(CBS) -- The Chicago Cubs have announced their first-ever fireworks at Wrigley Field, to be presented on the Fourth of July.

It was 100 years ago when the Chicago Whales had fireworks at the ballpark we now call Wrigley Field.

And, of course, Bill Veeck brought fireworks to Comiskey Park.

But the Cubs have not had fireworks at Wrigley Field.  Until now, that is, says Cubs spokesman Julian Green.

And for anybody thinking that maybe the rehabbed ballpark -- or residents of Wrigleyville -- are potentially in harm's way because of fireworks in such a densely populated area, Green says there's no reason for concern.

"We are not looking to put this huge project or the ballpark in jeopardy for one night of fireworks. We will be taking due care and doing our due diligence," he tells WBBM.
