Man Rescued From Icy Lakefront
(CBS) -- Chicago first-responders rescued a man at 75th Street and the lakefront this afternoon.
CBS 2's Pamela Jones observed the Chicago Fire Department and police at the scene. Divers were able to reach the stranded person, under treacherous and freezing conditions.
"The victim was huddled up on the ice. It didn't look like he'd broken all the way through yet, so he was just kind of stuck out there," Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class John Palmer told CBS 2 at the scene.
The fire department said the rescued man, who is in his forties, was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
Rescuers don't know what the man was doing on the ice or how long he had been there.
