Fire at shuttered hotel in Waukegan, Illinois may have been intentionally set
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (CBS) -- Fire raced through a vacant Ramada Inn in north suburban Waukegan early Wednesday evening, and investigators said it may have been intentionally set.
It took firefighters about five hours to get control of the flames and smoke in the rear of the vacant hotel at 200 N. Green Bay Rd.
The damage was extensive.
One firefighter was treated for exhaustion on the scene, but no other injuries were reported.
The hotel has been closed since 2018, and has a history of squatters breaking in and staying there. In October, two people were found shot and killed inside the abandoned hotel.
