Fire Officials: Man Killed In Chatham Apartment Fire

(STMW) -- A man in his 60s was killed in a fire in a Chatham neighborhood apartment building Tuesday afternoon, fire officials said.

Firefighters were called to the three-story courtyard building in the 7900 block of South Rhodes Avenue just before 5:15 p.m., according to Fire Media Affairs.

Crews quickly extinguished flames coming out of the front of the second-story unit, and found the man unresponsive in the bedroom where the fire started, Fire Media Affairs Chief Larry Langford said.

He was dead at the scene, according to fire officials. The fire did not spread beyond the unit.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire Tuesday afternoon.
