Chicago Police Fatally Shoot Armed Man After Domestic Dispute
(CBS) -- Chicago police shot and killed a man this morning after he alleged attacked a woman in North Lawndale, reports WBBM's Nancy Harty.
Police say officers were responding to a call of a man with a gun near Grenshaw and St. Louis at about 8:30 a.m. when a witness told them someone in the house had been shot.
Police forced their way into the home after talking to the man inside who they say refused to open or unlock the door. In a statement, police say the man ignored orders to drop a gun and pointed it at officers who then fired, killing him.
The officers found a woman in the home with a gunshot wound and several stab wounds. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
"He was a jealous boyfriend and he sat there and waited for the girl to come home because she went out and didn't come in until this morning, and he got upset," said neighbor Nicole Parker Boyd. "When the girlfriend came home, he shot her somewhere in the region of the region of her shoulder/arm area."
"The actions of the officers undoubtedly saved this woman's life," said Chicago Police Commander Melissa Staples.
Meanwhile, the Independent Police Review Authority is investigating.
