Fire Destroys Commercial Building In Cicero
(STMW) -- A fire destroyed a roofing company's building Wednesday afternoon in west suburban Cicero.
The fire began about 2:45 p.m. in a building near 30th Street and Ogden, town spokesman Ray Hanania said.
The fire caused propane tanks inside the building to explode, and the south wall of the building collapsed onto 30th Street, Hanania said.
A roofing company was housed in the building, and the property was surrounded by parking lots. Homes facing the south side of the business were untouched, but some nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution, he said.
Crews extinguished the fire about 4 p.m., Hanania said. The single-story brick building burned to the ground. No one was injured.
Officials continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.
