Fire rips through apartment building in west Chicago suburbs

All residents safe after apartment fire in west suburban Cicero; over 20 displaced

CICERO, Ill. (CBS) -- A fire broke out at an apartment building in west suburban Cicero Friday night.

It happened at a four-story multi-unit building in the 2100 block of South 51st Court.

Fire officials said the flames were coming from a fourth-floor window. A woman was hanging out of the window and was rescued by firefighters. One pet was also rescued from the building.

Initial reports said people were trapped, but CBS 2 was told everyone ultimately made it out safely. The fire was struck out and no injuries were reported.

Over 20 people were displaced as a result, according to fire officials. There was no word on what caused the fire.

The Red Cross and Cicero Human Services were helping to find temporary housing for the displaced residents.
