New Ferris Wheel Stalls At Navy Pier, Trapping 100 Riders
(CBS) -- About 100 people were trapped on the new Ferris wheel at Navy Pier Friday night when the attraction lost power for about a half hour.
The Centennial Wheel had an "electrical issue" around 8 p.m., causing it to lose power for about 20 minutes to 30 minutes, a Navy Pier spokesperson tells CBS 2.
The attraction, which opened Friday amid great fanfare, is closed until further notice.
All people were give a refund and free tickets for a future ride, Navy Pier representatives said.
The larger Ferris wheel replaces a vintage model that was dismantled. Crews worked over the winter to build the new one.
