Feds Slap Buffalo Grove Middle School Teacher With Child-Pornography Charges
(CBS) -- A Northwest suburban teacher faces child pornography charges.
WBBM's Bob Roberts reports from Meridian Middle School in Buffalo Grove.
Although John Vastis has taught public speaking at the school for 19 years, Police Chief Steven Casstevens says the charges do not involve his students.
"I've been assured by the U.S. Attorney's Office that this investigation did not involve the school or any child who attends the school," he said.
Instead, the charges deal with a boy, now 17, whom the 51-year-old Vastis allegedly met online a year ago.
The boy allegedly offered Vastis pornographic videos and photos and at least twice supplied them to him.
Vastis also was charged with receiving video containing child pornography.
Federal agents arrested Vastis at his Lakemoor home before classes were set to begin.
