Fans Welcomed Chicago Cubs Home After NLCS Advancement

CHICAGO (CBS) – The Wrigley Field marquee and some diehard fans welcomed Cubs home Wednesday morning as they returned home from San Francisco after beating the Giants in Game 4 of the National League Divisional Series on Tuesday night.

The marquee read, "CUBS ADVANCE TO THE NLCS -- THE NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES."

The buses, carrying players and their families, arrived at Wrigley Field at 6:44 a.m. Wednesday after a red-eye flight from San Francisco, CBS 2's Jim Williams reports.

A handful of fans were up early to welcome the triumphant Cubs home.

Fans saw Joe Maddon, Anthony Rizzo, Dexter Fowler and John Lackey in a cowboy hat.

Jake Arrieta held his daughter Palmer, who was sound asleep, with his wife Brittany and son Cooper following behind.

Jon Lester also offered a soft shoulder for his child after the long trip home.

As only one can imagine, we don't know how much sleep the players got on the plane after the raucous locker room celebration in San Francisco, but they had the rest of Wednesday off.

The Cubs will host Game 1 of the NLCS on Saturday after Wrigley Field against the winner of Game 5 between the Dodgers and Nationals. First pitch is set for 7:08 p.m.
