Boy Recovering After Being Hit By Falling Awning In Mundelein
(CBS) -- A young boy from the far north suburbs is recovering after a bizarre accident left him with a head injury.
He was waiting outside a store when an awning came crashing down right on top of him at an airgun shop in Mundelein.
Surveillance camera captured the moment when the awning crashed down on 10-year-old Cameron Beers. He and three other boys were standing in front of King David's Airsoft and Hobbies store, waiting for the business to open.
Surveillance video captured the awning falling onto Beers and he is seen holding his head as his father rushed to his side. He was treated at a local hospital and Sunday night he was resting at home, on his couch. His father said he was conscious the whole time but has trouble remembering the incident
"He has 18 staples in his head. He doesn't feel good. I mean he's sore, and I got to keep an eye on him," said James Beers, Cameron's father.
A second boy was also hit but didn't have to go to the hospital. Police say the village's building department inspected the awning and continuing its investigation.
CBS 2 reached out to the building's landlord but the phone call was not returned.
