Fall Storm System To Make For A Soggy Tuesday In Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A large fall storm system was bringing plenty of rain to the Chicago area on Tuesday, with more than 2 inches possible in some spots by Wednesday afternoon.

It had already started drizzling early Tuesday morning, and there was a lot more where that came from.

Rain will fall steadily throughout the day, and while there could be a couple breaks from precipitation in the evening, accumulations could be 1.5 to 3 inches of rain by the time the showers end Wednsday morning.

There could be some embedded thunderstorms and heavy rain in the mix, but most storm activity should stay to the south of the Chicago area.

While Thursday will bring a break from the rain, it will also bring much cooler conditions. After reaching the upper 50s and lower 60s on Tuesday and Wednesday, temperatures will reach only the upper 40s on Thursday.

Another storm system will move into the area Friday night, and could bring the first accumulating snow of the season for the Chicago area.

The city hasn't seen any snow yet this year, and while it's not a given that there will be any snow Friday and Saturday, conditions will be ideal, with temperatures falling into the upper 20s Friday night.
