Englewood groups team up to give away hundreds of Christmas gifts for Chicago families

Over 500 toys given away to families at event on Chicago's South Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A yearly toy giveaway Monday on the South Side was a success, as hundreds of families picked up gifts for the holidays.

Some families lined up hours before Monday's event, as the Englewood First Responders partnered with Mr. Dad's Father's Club and Jack and Jill Chicago to fill the room with more than 500 gifts for those in need.

"We've been doing this for five years. Every year it get better and better. Just doing it, especially when you're doing it from the heart. When you do it from the heart, it reaches other people, their heart. So I do it from the heart, and I love doing it," Englewood First Responders founder Charles McKenzie said.

Angel Wright said she was hoping to get some headphones, and Kemp Wright was looking for a coffee maker for his mom.

The giveaway had something for everyone, including a raffle for 10 iPads, 50-inch TVs, and gift cards.
