Emanuel In Washington D.C. For U.S. Mayor's Conference
WASHINGTON D.C. (CBS) -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel has a little work ahead of him, repairing his reputation as a big city leader. He's in the nation's capital for the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
CBS 2's Derrick Blakley reports on Wednesday Mayor Emanuel steps to the national stage to try to begin to rebuild his reputation as a dynamic urban leader, an image sorely damaged by his handling of the Laquan McDonald shooting videos.
City Hall is calling this a chance to discuss best practices in city government. But for a mayor so concerned about messaging and image, it's much more.
Days of holiday protests damaged Mayor Emanuel's reputation as a deft political hand, a polished crisis manager.
Wednesday, he'll take part in a round table discussion with other big city mayors about how to improve relations between the community and police.
While Emanuel likes to give advice, tomorrow, he may be receiving it from mayors in cities like New Orleans that have already been through federal justice department investigations like the one that's only starting in Chicago.
