Elk Grove Village ban on sale of THC products goes into effect Friday

Elk Grove's THC ban takes effect

ELK GROVE, Ill. (CBS) -- Elk Grove's ban on THC takes effect Friday.

Village leaders in Elk Grove passed an ordinance in March, banning ban the sale of THC products at some stores. The ordinance passed in a 5-0 vote by the board.

The ordinance prohibits tobacco and vape stores from selling any product that contains THC - the active ingredient found in marijuana.

The vote closes a loophole in the state's cannabis laws - allowing the sale of some THC products that haven't been approved by the FDA.

Those stores will receive letters pertaining to the vote.
