East Side Man Charged With Abusing 10 Pit Bulls
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Bond was set at $75,000 for a 49-year-old man facing more than 20 felony charges after several "abused" pit bulls were found living in "deplorable" conditions at his home in the East Side neighborhood on the Far South Side last week.
Juan Zamora was charged with 10 felony count counts of cruelty to animals, 10 felony counts of failing to perform animal owner duties, and one felony count of possession of dog fighting equipment, according to Chicago Police.
The police Animal Crimes Team executed a dog fighting-related search warrant at Zamora's home in the 9700 block of South Avenue L about 11:45 a.m. Thursday, police said.
The officers found 10 pit bulls that were living in "deplorable conditions," police said. They were turned over to Animal Care and Control for treatment.
Zamora was not home during the search, but turned himself in Monday, police said.
He was ordered held on a $75,000 bond Tuesday, according to the Cook County sheriff's office. He is expected to appear in court again June 15.
