Drivers In Western Suburbs Enjoying Low Gas Prices
(CBS) -- Brian Mitchell drives a service van to job sites all week for Rob-Lynn Power Systems in Lombard. He says they go through 200 gallons a gas a week between three vehicles. He says lower gas prices make a huge difference for his business.
"Big time. Expense wise, we were spending, when it was four dollars a gallon, this thing was $130 to fill it up. Now it's half that," he said.
At the Mobile at the corner of North Avenue and Main Street in Lombard, a gallon of gas with car wash is being advertised at $1.54, one of the lowest prices in the area.
"Now that gas is cheap, I'm putting in the special," said Dale Ohman of Lombard.
The average price of a gallon has fallen about 11 cents in the last week and drivers are loving it.
"I like it. I think it's amazing. I don't drive a ton but every little bit helps. When you don't have to put in 70 bucks to fill up the tank, that's a good thing for me and my SUV," said Mark Rosenick of Lombard.
"I think this is great. I go through a gallon of gas a week, no doubt. I just hope it lasts," said Jim Minogue of Glen Ellyn.
Gas prices are at historic lows and could even keep declining. The national average is at about 1.82 a gallon. Here in Chicago, the average price for a regular gallon of gas is $1.88.
