Drivers Advised To Avoid I-94 In NW Indiana After Semi Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Drivers are being advised to avoid I-94 in northwest Indiana on Thursday after a semi truck crashed and lost its load, causing major backups that could last through the evening commute.

Initially, all eastbound lanes of I-94 were closed after the semi lost its load and crashed sometime before 7:22 a.m. at the 22 mile marker near Porter, Ind., according to Indiana State Police.

As of 12:12 p.m., all eastbound lanes have reopened, police said. But only one westbound lane is open, as IDOT crews remove an overhead sign that was damaged in the crash.

Drivers are advised to avoid all of I-94 in the area through Thursday afternoon as lengthy backups are expected, according to INDOT.
