Driver killed in wrong-way crash on Bishop Ford at I-80
SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. (CBS) -- One person was killed Tuesday evening in a three-vehicle wrong-way crash at the junction of interstates 94 and 80 in the south suburbs.
Around 6 p.m., the driver of a 2018 Toyota Rav4 was headed the wrong way on the ramp leading from the the southbound lanes of the Bishop Ford Freeway to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80, Illinois State Police said.
The Rav4 hit a 2023 International semi-trailer truck head-on, and then crashed into a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze.
The driver of the wrong-way car, later identified as 67-year-old Leoist Jenkins by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The drivers of the semi and the Cruze were not injured.
The ramp from southbound I-94 to eastbound I-80 was closed following the crash, state police said. All lanes reopened around 11:30 p.m.
