Driver charged after hitting CPD officer with car in Humboldt Park

CHICAGO (CBS) – A Chicago man is held on $1 million bond after allegedly hitting a Chicago police officer with a car during a traffic stop in Humboldt Park Thursday.

Timothy Hendricks, 32, is charged with one felony count of attempted first-degree murder, one felony count of aggravated battery with harm to police, one felony count of resisting a peace officer, and one felony count of manufacturing less than 15 grams of cocaine.

Officers were conducting a traffic stop, in the 1000 block of North Ridgeway Avenue shortly after 8 p.m., after the driver in a white Mitsubishi failed to make a complete stop and use a turn signal, according to the State's Attorney's Office.

After refusing to exit the vehicle as requested by officers, the driver attempted to flee the scene and struck a squad car parked in front. The passenger in the vehicle, a 17-year-old boy, got out of the vehicle and was detained by police.

The driver proceeded to reverse at a high rate of speed -- striking the officer with the open passenger door.

The officer was taken to the hospital in good condition with minor injuries to his arm. A second officer suffered injuries to the wrist and hand after slashing the driver's tires to prevent him from fleeing.

The offender got out of the vehicle and started to flee on foot before he was detained, police said.

Hendricks was placed into custody and charged accordingly.

His bond is set for $1 million.
