Door Opens For Olt As Rangers Claim Murphy From Cubs

(CBS) The Rangers have claimed infielder Donnie Murphy from the Cubs for the waiver fee, according to a source.

The move is the best indication yet that 25-year-old Mike Olt, a highly regarded prospect who Chicago received in the July 2013 trade of Matt Garza to Texas, will make the Opening Day roster and get regular playing time at third base. The 31-year-old Murphy was previously in a battle for playing time at third base and second base for the Cubs.

Also, catcher George Kottaras was released Wednesday by the Cubs, according to a scouting source.
