Divvy To Expand Bike Share Service To Far South Side
CHICAGO (CBS)-- Divvy and the city announced the bike share service is expanding to the Far South Side, with the installation of 66 new docking stations and 3,500 additional bikes.
The expansion of the bike sharing program to the Far South Side is the first phase in an effort to expand Divvy citywide by 2021, with 10,500 new bikes and 200 new stations.
Divvy, operated by Lyft, currently has 600 stations and 6,000 bikes in Chicago, but currently has no docking stations south of 87th Street.
The expansion on the Southwest Side will add 66 docking stations to Far South Side neighborhoods like Englewood, Chatham, South Chicago, Auburn Gresham, Beverly, Morgan Park, Mount Greenwood, Pullman, Roseland, West Pullman, Hegewisch, and more.

The first new station will be installed at the intersection of 83rd and Stewart. Some of the new Divvy stations will be added at mass transit stops and stations to increase accessibility
Large swaths of the Northwest Side and Southwest Side also do not have any Divvy bikes. New stations and bikes will be added to those areas in two future phases of the Divvy expansion.

Lyft is investing $50 million in the expansion plan, and providing the city with another $77 million in revenue for transportation improvements over the next nine years. The Chicago Department of Transportation said Divvy's funds will help pay for 16.5 miles of new bike lanes on the Far South Side.
Once the Divvy expansion is completed, the city will have 800 docking stations, and 16,500 Divvy bikes.
