Senator Durbin Traveling To Cuba With Congressional Delegation
(CBS) -- Senator Dick Durbin is heading to Cuba this weekend with a congressional delegation, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.
It is the first congressional delegation to visit President Obama announced a change in policy, effectively easing a decades-old embargo. Senator Durbin is joining five other Democrats on the trip.
"There is a lot of symbolism in this, after 50 years of foreign policy where we basically built a wall and closed the door, the doors come open," Durbin said. "President Obama is embarking on a new foreign policy. I believe when the world is open, when the doors are open to the people of Cuba, they will see that there is a better way using democracy, human rights, building in a market system, we can be partners with Cuba in building a much better future."
Durbin said maybe the U.S. could learn some things from Cuba, particularly in providing health care to citizens.
