Derrick Rose Back At Bulls' Practice, Nearing A Return To Activity
(CBS) Bulls point guard Derrick Rose returned to the team's practice facility Monday for the first time since fracturing his left orbital on Sept. 29, but he still hasn't been cleared for a return to activity.
Rose was initially given a two-week timetable to return to basketball activities, which would be this Wednesday after his Sept. 30 surgery. Because he's still dealing with swelling around his eye, he may not return to activity Wednesday, but he's getting close. When Rose initially comes back, he may just be cleared for running/conditioning and not full practice, the Tribune reported.
"He still isn't able to do anything as far as court work," Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg said, according to the Tribune. "Hopefully, he'll get clearance in the next couple days to at least get a sweat going and getting a little bit of running. It will help to get him out here running. Different guys learn different ways. I think it's very important once we get him back to show him and be able to run (the offense) first-hand to get the timing right. But he's able to pick it up quick."
The Bulls open their season against the Cavaliers on Oct. 27, a game that the team hasn't yet ruled Rose out for. It's likely that Rose will wear a protective mask upon his return.
Chicago's final preseason games come on Oct. 20 and Oct. 23.
In other news, Bulls big man Joakim Noah will sit out Monday evening's contest against the Pelicans as a precaution after banging up his knee last Thursday.
