The derailment happened near the Illinois Medical District stop shortly before noon. CTA officials said it appeared a tire flew off a truck and landed on the tracks, causing a Blue Line train to derail.
Service was suspended between UIC Halsted and Pulaski after the incident, but resumed shortly after 2:30 p.m.
The CTA said residual delays were expected while service returns to normal.
