Chicago Woman Frantically Tries To Reach Her Father After Mexico Quake
(CBS) -- Imagine seeing the heartbreaking images of Tuesday's 7.1 earthquake in Mexico and not being able to help loved ones.
CBS 2's Charlie De Mar spoke to one Chicago woman who couldn't reach her dad in Mexico when the deadly quake hit.
Entire buildings were demolished into dust. The tremor was centered in Puebla, about 76 miles southeast of Mexico City.
"I went to call my dad and my dad is not answering and I'm like, 'What's going on?'" Isabel Galeno says.
Her dad still lives in Puebla. She now calls Chicago home.
"I'm thinking the worst because my dad is 73 years old, and I'm just thinking, 'What happened to my dad?'"
It turns out her father is all right. But as for his home, the roof collapsed. He told Galeno this week's quake was as strong as the one that devastated Mexico in 1985.
The death toll kept rising, and rescue efforts intensified to help people trapped in crumbled buildings.
