Death investigation underway after woman found with gunshot wounds in car in Bolingbrook

Chicago woman found shot to death in Bolingbrook described as 'dedicated, selfless and outgoing'

CHICAGO (CBS)-- A death investigation is underway after a woman was found shot in a car in Bolingbrook.

According to police, officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehcile in the 800 block of Poplar Lane and found a car 100 feet off the roadway on a grassy area.

Officers found a 32-year-old Chicago woman in the drivers seat with several gunshot wounds. Police later identified her as Cristina Lahoz, of Chicago.

She was taken to a local hospital where she died.

CBS 2's Sabrina Franza spoke to some of Lahoz's close friends who said she was very loved.

"I would do anything for her," said Julie Tobiasz. "If I could, I would take a bullet for her. I wish I could've."

Tobiasz is a close friend of Lahoz and gave CBS 2 a photo of her from a recent Christmas party.

Lahoz was found near Poplar Park in the drivers seat of a car with multiple gunshot wounds just before 9:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Neighbors reported a car spinning in circles. The tire marks on the ground and grass were visible on Friday. Neighbors also said they heard gunshots at a dead end leading up to the park.

When Bolingbrook police arrived on scene, they found Lahoz and tried to administer life-saving measures, but it was too late. She was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead there.

Her friends described Lahoz as dedicated, selfless, and outgoing. She had a longtime girlfriend and was a longtime manager at a Dunkin' Donuts nearby.

"It's just hard because working with her, she was so full of life and so much fun and what happened to her, was it worth it?" Tobiasz said. "Was her life really worth this?"

Lahoz's friends are asking for anyone with any information to come forward. CBS 2 saw police at the scene on Friday. No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Bolingbrook police at 630-226-8620.
