Infant dies after being found not breathing at home in South Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS)-- A death investigation is underway after a 1-month-old boy was found unresponsive in the South Chicago neighborhood.
Police said someone went to check on the sleeping infant at a home in the 8100 block of South Exchange Avenue around 4:40 a.m., and found he was not breathing.
Paramedics rushed the baby to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Chicago firefighters who arrived at the home detected a gas leak from the kitchen stove. Peoples Gas later inspected the lines, but it's not clear if the gas leak is to blame for the infant's death.
Area Two detectives are investigating, and police said there were no apparent signs of trauma.
