CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man has been charged with shooting his 12-year-old cousin last week in the Bronzeville neighborhood.

Deandre Warren, 18, has been charged with one count of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery.

Police said the 12-year-old boy was inside a home in the 4500 block of South Drexel Boulevard shortly after 10 p.m. on Aug. 5, when Warren pulled out a handgun and shot the boy in the chest, abdomen, and right arm.

According to court documents, other family members were in the apartment at the time of the shooting, including other children.

The boy was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in fair condition.

Police said Warren ran off after the shooting, but was arrested on Friday. At his first court appearance on Monday, a judge ordered him held in jail as he awaits trial.
