DCFS Investigating Aunt After Park Forest Infant Dies

PARK FOREST, Ill. (STMW) -- Child welfare officials are investigating the death of a 3-month-old boy from south suburban Park Forest.

Nathan Winston of the 400 block of Niagara Street died at 5:19 p.m. on Satuday at Franciscan St. James Health-Chicago Heights, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

An autopsy performed Sunday was inconclusive pending further studies, a representative for the examiner's office said.

The state Dept. of Children and Family Services is investigating the infant's aunt, DCFS spokeswoman Veronica Resa said. The agency has not had prior contact with the family.

An unspecified number of other children in the home have been placed with family members under a DCFS-monitored safety plan, Resa said.

Park Forest police could not immediately be reached Sunday afternoon for details about Nathan's death.
