Dark Barrel Latte: Starbucks Has No Immediate Plan To Serve Beer-Flavored Drink In Chicago

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- While Starbucks has confirmed it is test-marketing a new stout-flavored latte, the coffee giant has no immediate plans to offer the drink in the Chicago area.

The Dark Barrel latte mixes a chocolate-stout flavored syrup with the standard steamed milk and espresso. The beverage is topped with whipped cream and a dark caramel drizzle.

The drink is being tested in select stores in Ohio and Florida, according to a Starbucks spokeswoman.

Via social media, several people do say that the drink has the flavor of a dark, stout beer.

Starbucks was vague on whether the drink will become more widely available.

"We're looking forward to learning more from the test, but do not have information to share on future availability of this product in our stores," according to an email from the Starbucks spokeswoman.

While the latte tastes like beer, it does not contain alcohol.

Some Starbucks stores, including seven Chicago area locations, have begun selling beer and wine as part of their "evening menu."
