Darius Paul Leaves Illinois, Signs With JUCO Lamar State

(CBS) After recently being suspended from the Illinois men's basketball team for the entire 2014-'15 season, 6-foot-8 forward Darius Paul has left the program and signed with Lamar State, a junior college in Port Arthur, Texas, according to multiple reports.

On May 13, Illinois announced Paul was suspended for the upcoming season after he was previously charged with underage drinking and resisting an officer. It was later reported that Paul had also been attempting to buy Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a dangerous club drug that induces hallucinations.

After being named the MAC Freshman of the Year at Western Michigan in 2012-'13, Paul transferred to Illinois, sat out the '13-'14 season and was expected to be an important contributor to the team this season. With the move to junior college, he will have two years of eligibility left to transfer back to a Division-I school.

Paul is a product of Gurnee Warren and is the younger brother of former Illini standout Brandon Paul.
